Now that the divisive reboot of Ghostbusters has come and gone, Dan Aykroyd is once again talking about doing a third film in the main series. Bloody Digusting reports that during an interview with AXS TV’s The Big Interview with Dan Rather, the actor said he’s still hoping to get his vision for a third Ghostbusters movie made.

The film would have been made years ago, but Bill Murray never showed an interest in it. Since then, co-star Harold Ramis has passed away. The film would have starred Oscar, the son of both Dana (Sigourney Weaver) and Peter Venkman (Murray), who is now a postgrad student force to take over the Ghostbusters business when Venkman dies (in the first scene of the film). Murray would have played a ghost. It was rumored to be greenlit until Ramis’ death.

Aykroyd wasn’t a fan of the remake and blamed its box office failure on director Paul Feig’s budget. Feig has expressed interest in making a sequel but Aykroyd is instead working on an animated film.

He said: “There is a possibility of a reunion with the three remaining Ghostbusters, It’s being written right now. I think Billy will come. The story’s so good. Even if he plays a ghost.
