Dax Shepard in Talks to Co-Direct Upcoming Scooby-Doo Animated Movie

According to a report by Variety, Dax Shepard is currently in talks with Warner Bros. to co-direct a planned Scooby-Doo animated movie. Shepard would join the project alongside co-director Tony Cervone (Space Jam). Shepard’s directing credits include 2012’s Hit and Run, and next year’s CHiPs feature.

In addition, Shepard is going to co-write the screenplay with Matt Lieberman, and Dan Povenmire will executive produce the project. Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are producing the film, which is scheduled for a September 21, 2018 release.

Jesse Ehrman, who oversaw Shepard’s CHiPs feature, is the executive attached to oversee the Scooby-Doo movie. Shepard was reportedly brought in to meet with executives after he expressed interest int he property. Warner Bros. had envisioned two directors working on the film.

The film will be produced under the Warner Animation banner, which brought The LEGO Movie to the screen. The Scooby-Doo franchise originated with the Hanna-Barbera animated series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!?, which debuted in 1969.
