The Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-led Black Adam film has an official release date once again. Warner Bros. Pictures has announced that the DCEU, which stars Johnson in the titular role, will bow on July 29th, 2022. This is a new release date for the super(anti)hero movie, which was undated after being pushed back like just about every film due to pandemic-related production delays. Notably, the announcement says that the film is “only in theaters,” which would certainly seem to underscore Warner Bros.’ stance that they will be going back to a more traditional distribution model for some of their films after releasing their film slate day-and-date in theaters and on HBO Max throughout this year.

The news comes after Johnson teased an announcement on social media earlier today, writing on Instagram:

“Word on the street is that Black Adam, himself is making an announcement today.

Lets see what he has in store as the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change.

Stay tuned.”

In addition to Johnson as Black Adam, the film stars Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, and Sarah Shahi and Marwan Kenzari in as-yet-unrevealed roles. Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the film from a script by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshiryani. It is set to begin production next month in Atlanta.
