According to The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney Studios and Lucasfilm have signed director Deborah Chow to direct the previously announced Obi-Wan Kenobi TV series for Disney+.

Chow also directed multiple episodes of The Mandalorian, which will debut on November 12 on the Disney+ service. Her other directing credits include Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Better Call Saul, Marvel’s Iron Fist, Reign, Mr. Robot, and Fear the Walking Dead. Ewan McGregor is attached to return in the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who he portrayed in the live-action Star Wars Prequel Trilogy.

Speaking on the news, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy stated: “We really wanted to select a director who is able to explore both the quiet determination and rich mystique of Obi-Wan in a way that folds seamlessly into the Star Wars saga. Based on her phenomenal work developing our characters in The Mandalorian, I’m absolutely confident Deborah is the right director to tell this story.”

Hossein Amini (The Snowman, The Alienist, 47 Ronin) is writing the upcoming series, which will be set before the events of the original 1977 Star Wars: A New Hope movie. Besides the Kenobi show, Lucasfilm and Disney are also working on a Rogue One prequel TV show featuring Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and K-2SO (Alan Tudyk).

Previously, there was talk of a standalone theatrical feature centering on Obi-Wan Kenobi, but that project was ultimately shelved when Disney opted to shift course on its spinoff film plans for the Star Wars franchise due to the disappointing box office performance for Solo: A Star Wars Story.
