Derek Mears Reportedly Up For Lead in DC Universe’s Swamp Thing

Derek Mears is reportedly up for the role of the titular character in DC Universe’s Swamp Thing. Splash Report brings word that Mears – best known for his work as Jason Vorhees in the Friday the 13th reboot, as well as a Kree Captain in Agents of SHIELD season six and Dwarfstar in The Flash, is being sought for the lead role.

Mears would play the creature version of the role and not the human role of Alec Holland, who has yet to be cast. Mears would join a cast that includes Crystal Reed as Abigail Arcane and Maria Sten as Liz Tremayne.

The prospective series follows U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) researcher Abby Arcane as she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she bonds with scientist Alec Holland, only to have him tragically taken from her.

But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets — both horrifying and wondrous, that could potentially bring the love of her life back to her.
