Disney Working on Live-Action Peter Pan Film

Peter Pan is proving to be the most resilient boy in Hollywood. Deadline reports that Walt Disney is the latest studio to develop a live-action take on the J.M. Barrie story, which they off course turned into an animated film in 1953. The studio has director David Lowery and writer Toby Halbrooks, the team behind their Pete’s Dragon remake, set for the film.

Disney has been developing live-action films based on several of their animated films over the past few years and have a host of them coming up including this Friday’s The Jungle Book, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Pete’s Dragon, Beauty and the Beast, Cruella, Maleficent 2, Dumbo, Mulan, Winnie the Pooh, Pinocchio and more. There is also a live-action Tinkerbell movie starring Reese Witherspoon in the works and that film could feature crossover casting with Peter Pan.

The Peter Pan story has been adapted multiple times over the years and was the subject of last year’s bomb Pan, as well as the financially-unsuccessful 2003 film from P.J. Hogan.
