TMZ reports that Eddie Murphy is considering a return to stand-up comedy and Netflix could be the ones that benefit from it. The website claims that Murphy is talking with the streaming platform for a special that could land him around $70 million if the deal goes through. The exact number is unknown, but that’s believed to be where the negitations are at this point in time.

This is a similar number to other big comedy specials for the service. Dave Chappelle got $60 million for three stand-up specials in 2017 while Chris Rock got $40 million for two specials in 2016. Murphy, it could be argued, is a bigger star than either of them, and the appeal of his return to stand-up, something he hasn’t done in decades for a large audience, would make this a huge coup for Netflix. He’s expressed his desire to make a comeback in the past, including on the Netflix series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee while talking with Jerry Seinfeld.
