Eddie Redmayne has reportedly been offered the lead role in the new Harry Potter universe series. Variety reports that the Oscar winner is in negotiations to star in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

The report notes that J.K. Rowling has turned in the script for the film and that Redmayne is “very happy with what he has read.” His role would be that of Newt Scamander, a “magizooligist” who writes the book from which the film gets its name.

The film is set about seventy years before the Harry Potter films and is based in New York. There will be four other main characters, two American girls and two American boys. David Yates is directing the film, which begins production this summer in London.
