Mortal Kombat has added another character from its video game source in the vampiric Nitara. Greg Russo, who wrote the script for the upcoming film, has confirmed on Twitter that stuntwoman Elissa Cadwell (Aquaman) will play Nitara in the upcoming James Wan-produced reboot.

Nitara debuted in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance in 2002 and has since mostly made cameos in games like Mortal Kombat: Deception, Mortal Kombat: Unchained, and Mortal Kombat 11. She has a more significant presence in 2007’s Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. She is a vampire who is portrayed as a more neutral character than the more abjectly evil types, and has a mission to separate her own realm from Outworld in the games.

Cadwell joins a cast that includes Lewis Tan in an unknown lead role, Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Chin Han as Shang Tsun, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano, Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden and Sisi Stringer as Mileena. Simon McQuoid is directing the R-rated adaptation, which will release on March 5th, 2021.
