According to The Hollywood Reporter, Frank Miller, the creator of Sin City, got the movie and TV rights to the franchise back after the Weinstein Company’s bankruptcy. He has the rights to develop a TV to the series he created in 1991, as well as the rights to the 2005 film.

The Weinstein Company was sold to Lantern Capital Partners after the bankruptcy and the allegations against co-founder Harvey Weinstein. Weinstein was also charged with six counts of sexual assault and rape in Manhattan. Miller didn’t want Sin City sold to Lantern as part of the sale. In the settlement, Miller and Lantern agreed that the TV rights and first film will not be part of that sale. TWC had the rights to develop a TV show in 2012 but it never happened. The new settlement will not apply to 2014’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.
