We can joke about how many people actually saw Game of Thrones compared to who watched it, but that latter numbers was a record for the series. Deadline reports that the episode, “The Long Night,” averaged 17.8 million viewers over all platforms including both TV airings for Sunday night. That tops all the show’s previous episodes, and in fact all HBO series.

The episode was also the longest episode of the series to date and, with a 5.28 terrestrial (traditional TV) demo rating, gave the series the second-best such rating for the series behind only the season seven finale (5.7 demo rating). By comparison, that is 3.3 times the demo rating for any other show on TV, including broadcast networks.
