Game of Thrones Prequel Pilot Adds Miranda Richardson

Miranda Richardson his heading to ancient Westeros. The Harry Potter alum has joined the Game of Thrones prequel pilot, according to Deadline. As has been the case with all the castings, her character is being kept under wraps but it will be a series regular role. She joins a cast that includes Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, and Toby Regbo.

Richardson is an Oscar nominee for her work in 1993’s Damage and 1994’s Tom & Viv. However, she’s better-known for playing Rita Skeeter in the Potter films, Lady Mary Van Tassel in Sleepy Hollow, and Madame Giry in the film version of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Phantom of the Opera.

The prequel takes place thousands of years before the events of of the current series and “chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour.”
