Game of Thrones Prequel Pilot to Begin Production Next Year

HBO is looking to begin production on the pilot to their Game of Thrones prequel next year. HBO programming president Casey Bloys announced the news at the TCA on Wednesday, noting that they are currently hunting for a director.

The spinoff series is created by Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin, with the pilot written by Goldman based on a story by her and Martin. It is set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones. The series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.

Goldman will serve as showrunner and executive produce alongside Martin, Vince Gerardis and Daniel Zelman.
