Game of Thrones Season 8 Premiere Draws 17.4 Million Viewers

HBO has announced Sunday’s premiere for Game of Thrones Season 8 pulled in 17.4 million viewers. That breaks the previous series high of 16.9 million viewers for the Season 7 finale.

By comparison, the Season 7 premiere for the hit dark fantasy series drew 16.1 million viewers. So, the Season 8 premiere grew by over a million viewers.

Additionally, the HBO NOW subscription streaming service saw a jump in 50% of viewing when compared to the last season finale and also nearly doubled by 97% compared to the seventh season premiere. HBO also claimed that Sunday night’s streaming activity was the largest ever for the premium network.

The 9:00 pm airing of the premiere took in 11.8 million viewers, which was 10.1 million viewers for the Season 7 one.

Additionally, the show was very actively discussed on social media. It was said to be the most tweeted about episode in the history of the series with more than five million tweets and 11 million mentions throughout the weekend.

The final season of Game of Thrones airs Sunday nights on HBO.
