In a new post on his personal blog, A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) author and writer George R.R. Martin shared details on the upcoming release of a new companion book for the series, Fire & Blood. According to Martin, this book series will feature “monumental history of the Targaryen kings of Westeros.”

In the blog, Martin confirmed that the next long-awaited book follow-up to the series won’t be in stores until 2019 at the earliest. But he did make a comment on how this book could potentially figure into future TV spin-offs for the smash hit TV series, Game of Thrones, which is based on Martin’s original books.

Martin stated on the subject, “As most of you know, HBO is presently developing a number of different prequels to Game of Thrones. I know I am going to be asked whether those shows are going to be based on material from Fire & Blood. It’s a logical question.”

He added, “The only answer I can give is… ah, well, no one is sure yet, and anyway, I am not allowed to say. So let’s move that to the side.”

Game of Thrones will have its eighth and final season that will debut on HBO later in 2019. As martin mentioned, a number of different TV prequels are said to be in the works for the series.

HBO previously revealed that four writers (Carly Wray, Jane Goldman, Brian Helgeland, and Max Borenstein) are working to “explore different time periods of [George R.R. Martin]’s vast and rich universe. There is no set timetable for these projects. We’ll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in.”
