On Friday at the D23 Expo 2017, Marvel Animation and Disney XD announced the details of the third season for the animated Guardians of the Galaxy series. Cort Lane, Senior Vice President, Animation & Family Entertainment and Joe Quesada, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer, were both on hand at the panel to make the announcement. The show has been picked up for a third season, which will be retitled as Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, based on the new theme park attraction at Disneyland.

The third season will feature the return of Will Friedle as Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Trevor Devall as Rocket, Vanessa Marshall as Gamora, Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot, and David Sobolov as The Collector. In the third season of the show, the Guardians after gaining fame and fortune have been framed by the Collector. As a result, the Guardians have to travel to new universes and stage a massive sting operation inside the Nova Corps and expose a “Secret Invasion” that has been years in the making.

You can check out some new artwork for the upcoming season that was revealed at the D23 Expo below. The poster reveals that Baby Groot will be featured this season.

Additionally, Marvel also revealed that there will be a new animated LEGO special, LEGO Marvel Super Heroes – Guardians of the Galaxy: The Thanos Threat. In the new special, the Guardians face off against Thanos, Ronan, Nebula and the Ravagers after they look to possess the Build Stone, a powerful and creative relic. The Guardians of the Galaxy are the only ones who can protect it. The special will be 22 minutes. More details on its platform and release period will be revealed later on.
