HBO Begins Production on Game of Thrones Prequel Series House of the Dragon

The first Game of Thrones spinoff has officially begun production in House of the Dragon. The show’s official Twitter account announced on Monday that the show has begun production and will arrive in 2022 on HBO and HBO Max.

You can see the announcement tweets below, which also confirm the castings of Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower and Steve Toussaint as The Sea Snake.

The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood and will chronicle the rise and the downfall of the Targaryens, who is the only family of dragon lords to survive the Doom of Valyria. It will take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
