It’s official…Alan Moore’s iconic graphic novel Watchmen is headed to HBO. Kind of, anyway. HBO has announced that they have given a series order to Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen series.

The series has been in the works under HBO for some time, with word first breaking in 2015 that Zack Snyder was developing the series. Snyder stepped away eventually and Lindelof began working on a series last summer.

Lindelof has said that the series will not directly use the story in Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel, instead calling the show a story “set in the world its creators painstakingly built.” The logline reads as follows:

“Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, WATCHMEN embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.”

The series will star Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith, and Adelynn Spoon.
