HBO Max is at work on a film adaptation of the Stephen King and Joe Hill novella Throttle. Deadline reports that the streaming service has tapped Leigh Dana Jackson to write a script for the planned film, based on the father and son’s story from the 2009 anthology He Is Legend. The project is said to be in the “early development” stage at this point.

Throttle is inspired by Richard Matheson’s short story Duel, which originally appeared in Playboy and itself became the source for a 1971 film by Steven Spielberg. The King/Hill short story follows a father and son led biker gang who get terrorized by a big rig truck on an isolated stretch of the American desert.

David S. Goyer and Keith Levine will produce the film through Phantom Four.
