Stephen King’s dark fantasy novel Eyes of the Dragon won’t be coming to the small screen as expected for now. The series adaptation had previously been set up through Hulu, but the show’s planned showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith has confirmed on The Kingcast that the planned show has been scrapped.

Grahame-Smith noted that the decision from Hulu to cancel the planned series was due to budgetary reasons and the recent changes to Hulu’s executives, caused by Disney’s taking control over the streamer as a consequence of its purchase of 20th Century Fox. He added that he was hoping to get Sam Rockwell to portray the antagonist Flagg in the series.

Grahame-Smith was developing the series and was executive producing along with David Katzenberg, Bill Haber, Roy Lee and Jon Berg. The novel is set in the fantasy realm of Delain and follows two princes whose parents are murdered when they’re 12 and one is framed, while the other becomes king under the auspices of the manipulative magician Flagg.
