Disney is set to combine its Hulu and Disney+ content into one app, though the services will remain separate. Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed on Wednesday (per THR that a new app will begin rolling out by the end of the year and that the open will be available only to those who have subscribed to both services for now.

“While we continue to offer Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ as standalone options, this is a logical progression of our DTC offerings that will provide greater opportunities for advertisers, while giving bundle subscribers access to more robust and streamlined content, resulting in greater audience engagement and ultimately leading to a more unified streaming experience,” Iger said on Disney’s earnings call. “The advertising potential of this combined platform is incredibly exciting.”

Comcast owns a third of in Hulu and an option on the ownership is quickly approaching. That put option, which arrives in January 2024, can be called on by Comcast to force Disney to buy it out. Disney can also tell Comcast it must share its stake, which is valued at around $9 billion. Iger noted that the matter has not “been fully determined” as of yet but that he sees a benefit in potentially retaining the kind of content seen on Hulu in conjunction with Disney content. He added that Disney has had some “cordial” conversations with Comcast already on the topic.

Details on the Disney and Hulu combined app have not been revealed, but will be as the year progresses.
