Is Kenobi in Trouble?

It wouldn’t feel complete without some Star Wars drama making headlines with rumors and assorted controversy.

Thanks to a website that will not be named, Kenobi has been in the press for the last week or so and not in the good way.

Perhaps the force isn’t as strong with this one.

A false alarm was sounded that started a panic among fans that Disney+’s Kenobi was in serious trouble. After that was debunked, we have now have word that series writer Hossein Amini is no longer attached to the project. Word is Disney wants to overhaul the scripts and that pre-production in London is being put on hold with production delayed from August 2020 to January 2021.

Ewan McGregor, who will be reprising is role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the series, told Variety that the changes are “not really as dramatic as it might seem.”

McGregor was at a Birds of Prey press event and was asked about the changes. The actor confirmed the delay, but seemed non-committal on the scripts being in trouble.

“Yeah, we just pushed the shoot to the beginning of next year,” McGregor said. “The scripts are really good. I saw 90% of the writing. There was all this bullshit about [there] being creative differences and all that stuff. None of it true; they just pushed the dates.”

McGregor added: “Episode IX came out, everyone had more time to read the stuff that had been written, and they felt like they wanted to do more work on it, so they slid the shoot.”

With Mandalorian doing so well, was Disney rethinking things?  For a while Lucasfilm seemed intent on rushing projects to the theaters and TV but seemed to have back off that point. In wanting to stay the course with the goodwill Mandalorian has brought, perhaps a slow down was needed to tweak things here and there.

What do you think?
