Warning: Spoilers follow for Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire.

Isaac Hempstead Wright spoke with HBO about Bran’s fate in Game of Thrones and how it fits into George R.R. Martin’s plans for his novels. Wright told Making Game of Thrones about Bran’s ascension to king of Westeros at the end of the series and said that was one of two things that Martin had planned for Bran in his story.

“[Showrunners] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] told me there were two things [author] George R.R. Martin had planned for Bran, and that was the Hodor revelation, and that he would be king. So that’s pretty special to be directly involved in something that is part of George’s vision. It was a really nice way to wrap it up.”

Of course, there’s the possibility that, since the books are not completed yet, Martin could change things up. But for now, it appears that the Three-Eyed Raven will end Martin’s fantasy series as the ruler of Westeros.
