James Cameron Says He’s ‘Working On’ Potentially Doing an Alien Project

James Cameron hinted that he has something Alien-related in the works during a new interview. IGN caught up with Cameron on the red carpet for Alite: Battle Angel and during the interview, was asked about giving Neill Blomkamp “a call” about the franchise. Cameron told the site, “I’m working on that, yeah.”

Blomkamp was working on a fifth film in the franchise, that would have been a follow-up to Alien: Resurrection instead of following in the footsteps of Ridley Scott’s prequels. However, Blomkamp said that the project was “totally dead,” confirming reports that Fox was rethinking the franchise after Alien Covenant’s disappointing box office performance.

Disney will own the franchise following its acquisition of 21st Century Fox. Cameron directed the acclaimed second film in the franchise, 1986’s Aliens.
