The Purge franchise creator James DeMonaco says that the next film will be the final entry in the series. DeMonaco spoke with EW and said that he has an idea for the next film, in a way that would end the whole series.

“I have it in my head,” says DeMonaco. “I think I’m going to write it. I think it’s a great way to end it all. We want to end it all, I think, in this one, and I’m very excited. When I came up with the idea and pitched it to everybody, they seemed psyched, and I think it will be a really cool ending, how we take this one home.”

The Purge has been a highly profitable series for Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions. The dystopian series, set in a world where America has a single night a year where all crime is legal, has grossed $446.8 million total worldwide on a total budget (not including marketing) of $35 million. The spinoff series airs on USA Network on Tuesdays.
