Since Batman made a brief appearance in Suicide Squad back in 2016, fans have been asking director James Gunn if the Dark Knight will also cameo in his sequel, The Suicide Squad.

Ben Affleck hasn’t donned the cape and cowl since Justice League in 2017, and it seems that his run as Batman is over, especially with the news that Robert Pattinson will play him in The Batman in 2021. With the future of Batman at least a little hazy (a Variety report from March noted that Affleck is still signed to play Batman in a Justice League sequel if one is announced), it only makes sense that fans would question when or if the World’s Greatest Detective will appear again.

Gunn gave them the best answer he could on his Instagram story (via Cinema Blend), pointing out that his film will not feature Batman, and the next film with the Caped Crusader is still The Batman in 2021.

He wrote: “You can check out Batman in The Batman June 2021. The Suicide Squad will feature mostly, you know, The Suicide Squad.
