James Gunn is behind two of the bigger upcoming comic book blockbusters in The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and he says they aren’t likely to be delayed. Gunn took to Twitter to answer fan questions about the two films, whose statuses have been a point of uncertainty among fans.

Talking about the two films, Gunn said that The Suicide Squad is unlikely to move. He noted that the spiritual sequel to Suicide Squad is “on or ahead of schedule. We were extremely fortunate to wrap shooting & set up editing from our homes (due to a post production team & studio with foresight) before quarantine.” He did add that the first image and trailer for the film are a ways off still though, noting, “although editing T[the film] has been pretty smooth in the time of quarantine (I’m working on the cut right now), there are a lot of other factors slowed – some of those related to releasing images, trailers, etc.”

As for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which Gunn is set to move onto once he’s done with The Suicide Squad, “Right now the plans with Vol 3 are also exactly the same as they were before coronavirus.”

The Suicide Squad will star Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Viola Davis, Idris Elba, John Cena, Nathan Fillion, David Dastmalchian, Michael Rooker, Storm Reid, Taika Waititi, Peter Capaldi and more, and is set to release on August 6th, 2021. Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 does not yet have an official release date set.
