James Jude Courtney is reprising the role of Michael Myers in Halloween Kills, and he says the film will is a fair bit more intense than the last one. Courtney appeared on Pop Culture With Pat (per Bloody Disgusting) and discussed the progression of the mood in the sequel, which he says has increased stakes.

“We have to make the natural progression from 1978 to 2018 to Halloween Kills – the ante has be upped,” Courtney said. “The ticking bomb has to be more intense. Otherwise we’re just doing what we’ve done before … We pumped up the volume on this one. We’ve progressed late into the night, and now that everybody realizes what the stakes are…it’s reaching a head. It’s [the 2018 film] on speed.”

The full interview is below. Halloween Kills releases on October 16th and stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, Andi Matichak as Allyson, Judy Greer as Karen, Dylan Arnold as Cameron Elam, Victoria Paige Watkins as Christy, Kyle Richards as Lindsey Wallace, Nancy Stephens as Nurse Marion, Charles Cyphers as Leigh Brackett, Anthony Michael Hall as Tommy Doyle, Robert Longstreet as Lonnie Elam, James Jude Courtney and Nick Castle as Michael Myers.
