James Marsden is known among comic book fans as the original live-action film version of Cyclops via X-Men, and it’s a role he wouldn’t mind taking back up. Marsden spoke with Screen Rant promoting Sonic the Hedgehog, which releases this week, and was asked if he would be interested in returning to the role now that Marvel is bringing the X-Men into the MCU.

“Great question,” Marsden said. “I mean, I look at those three movies I was in, and it became a huge part of my life. It was a family, all of them. And I was very grateful too. Like, that’s 40 years at the time of backstory and iconic characters, beloved characters. So, I’d be a fool to say no to that. Of course, I would. Who knows where that universe goes? Feige is still a friend of mine, and we talk occasionally. But you just don’t know where it’s gonna go. Right now, it’s with all the young guys; all the kiddos. But I would never be opposed to coming back to that. I hold a special place in my heart for that experience.”

Marsden played Cyclops in the first three X-Men films as well as in a cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Tye Sheridan played the role in X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. There’s no confirmation of when Marvel may introduce the mutants into the MCU, though it is not currently set to be during Phase Four, which runs through Thor: Love and Thunder in November of 2021.
