Janelle Monáe has racked up an impressive resume in film to date, and now she’s hoping to play one of the most iconic X-Men when the mutants arrive in the MCU. Monáe spoke with Empire and revealed that she’d love to play Storm.

Monáe noted that she visited with the cast of Black Panther while they were shooting in Atlanta and she was working on her most recent album “Dirty Computer.” Storm is, of course, not only an X-Men but viewed as royalty in Wakanda in the comics, as she was married to T’Challa and recently has reunited with him. Monae noted that she didn’t know whether Storm will appear in the upcoming sequel but would love to play the role if that’s the case.

“I definitely have thrown it out there,” she said. “One of my dreams has always been to play Storm. I don’t know if she comes in Black Panther, but it would be a dream to have her in it. I don’t know where they are with that. A lot of women have played Storm and they’ve done an exceptional job, and I would love to be in that line of artists and get to do Storm justice.”

Storm was previously played by Halle Berry and then Alexandra Shipp in the live-action films, last appearing in the final Fox X-Men film, Dark Phoenix. Kevin Feige teased the idea of “the mutants” coming to the MCU at least year’s Comic-Con but no announcements have been made yet.

Monáe has starred in a host of acclaimed films in the last few years, notably Moonlight, Hidden Figures, and Harriet. She will next appear in the horror film Antebellum.
