Jay Hernandez Cast As Lead in Magnum P.I. Reboot Pilot

Jay Hernandez is set to take on the iconic role of Magnum P.I. CBS has cast the actor in the lead role of their reboot pilot, according to Variety. The new Magnum, according to the trade, is similar to the original, described as “a decorated ex-Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator.”

The new series is created by Peter Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim (Hawaii Five-0), and will center around the four main characters from the original series. Higgins, played in the original by John Hillerman, will now be disavowed former MI:6 agent Juliet Higgins. Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) is directing the pilot and while he won’t be involved, original star Tom Selleck has reportedly given his blessing.

Hernandez is known for his work in Suicide Squad as El Diablo, as well as Bad Moms, Hostel, Friday Night Lights and Crazy/Beautiful.
