DC CCO Jim Lee has confirmed what many of us have long suspected: DC Universe’s original TV shows will be moving to HBO Max. Lee spoke with THR for a new interview discussing DC Comics’ future in the wake of WarnerMedia’s massive reorganization which led to a host of layoffs, including Editor-In-Chief Bob Harras and many others. While discussing the future of the company, Lee said that DC Universe’s original content such as Doom Patrol, Titans, and the like will be moving over to the larger WarnerMedia streaming service.

“The original content that is on DCU is migrating to HBO Max,” Lee said. “Truthfully, that’s the best platform for that content. The amount of content you get, not just DC, but generally from WarnerMedia, is huge and it’s the best value proposition, if I’m allowed to use that marketing term. We feel that is the place for that.”

DC Universe will remain, Lee said, though it was intimated that the service will remain either primarily or wholly as a comics subscription platform similar to rival Marvel Unlimited. Lee noted, “In regards to the community and experience that DCU created, and all the backlist content, something like 20.000 to 25,000 different titles, and the way it connected with fans 24-7, there is always going to be a need for that. So we’re excited to transform it and we’ll have more news on what that will look like. It’s definitely not going away.”

The move is by no means unexpected, as DC Universe has slowly been moving its video content to other platforms. The well-received Stargirl, for example, has been renewed for season two but will call The CW its exclusive in-season home. Doom Patrol has aired simultaneously on DC Universe and HBO Max, while the Harley Quinn animated series bowed its first two seasons (already aired on DC Universe) on HBO Max this month. DC Universe originals set to continue as of now include Titans, which has been renewed for a third season and Young Justice, which was renewed for a fourth. There is no word yet on the future of Doom Patrol or Harley Quinn, both of which have been well-received by fans and have done good streaming numbers for DC Universe.
