The current Halloween trilogy has its share of critics, and they might be happy to hear that John Carpenter says Halloween Ends is a departure from the previous movies. Carpenter spoke with SyFy Wite for a new interview while promoting the 40th anniversary of The Thing and was asked about the new film, which he is scoring with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies.

“Well, it’s Halloween, and it ends,” Carpenter said with a chuckle. “You’ll see it’s a departure from the others. It’s interesting. Dave is a really good director. I love working with him.”

The first two films, 2018’s Halloween and 2021’s Halloween Kills, have been profitable ventures for Blumhouse but came under criticism from fans for its handling of the story. The new film is set four years after the events of those two films and will see Jamie Lee Curtis and Andi Matichak returning as Laurie and Allyson.

A trailer for the film was shown at CinemaCon but has yet to be released publicly. The movie is set to release on October 14th.
