According to Box Office Mojo, Warner Bros. and DC’s Justice League is off to a slow start at the box office. The film brought in an estimated $38.8 million for its opening day. It’s now tracking for an opening weekend to be under $100 million this weekend.

The opening day gross includes about $13 million from Thursday night previews. The film did poorly with critics, pulling in a 40 percent rating at Rotten Tomatoes. The film was rated B+ by audiences for CinemaScore. On top of that, the film had a reported budget of $300 million due to extensive reshoots.

The film has brought in $70.7 million overseas, and it’s currently sitting at $109.5 million worldwide. However, if it opens less than $100 million this weekend, there is no way it can be anything other than disappointing. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice had an opening weekend of $166 million, and that’s to some startling bad reviews before it opened in theaters. That film went on to make $330 million domestic and $870 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, another DC Universe release from earlier this year, Wonder Woman, opened higher with $103 million. If a film featuring WB and DC’s biggest hitters like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, opens even lower, that could be bad news for the future of the DC Universe at the movies as well as the future of the Justice League.
