Deadline reports that Kevin Durand has joined the cast of DC Universe’s Swamp Thing, where he’ll play the villain Jason Woodrue. Woodrue is better known to comic fans as the Fluronic Man. The character was previously played by John Glover in 1997’s Batman & Robin.

Here’s a character description: Prickly genius Jason Woodrue is a biogeneticist without equal and he knows it. Brought in to study the unique properties of a small-town Louisiana swamp, Woodrue becomes fixated on unlocking the potential contained within — leading to tragic and monstrous consequences.

He joins a cast that includes Andy Bean, Derek Mears, Henderson Wade, Crystal Reed, Virginia Madsen, Will Patton, Jennifer Beals, Maria Sten and Jeryl Prescott. Len Wiseman will direct from a script by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. Wiseman, Verheiden and Dauberman will executive produce with James Wan, Michael Clear and Rob Hackett. Swamp Thing will debut in 2019.
