Recently, there’s been some speculation regarding the future of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 following James Gunn’s unceremonious firing from the project last summer by Disney. Gunn had already written a script for the film before it was set to go into production, which has since been delayed. Speaking to CinemaBlend, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirmed that the planned upcoming sequel will use James Gunn’s script.

Feige stated on the script for the upcoming film, “[Gunn’s] influence was Guardians. It was his input on Guardians and the Avengers films, as you’ve seen in Infinity War, and on the Guardians 3 script, which we’re still using. So you’ll see that influence.”

As previously reported, Marvel is still planning to make the sequel. However, it’s production was delayed until February 2021. That means the film likely won’t be out until about 2022 at the earliest. The film does not yet have an official release date. Currently, the project does not yet have a new director.

Taika Waititi has stated that he won’t direct the film. Adam McKay did admit in a podcast interview that Marvel asked him to direct Vol. 3.
