When WandaVision drops in early January, it will look at the origin story of the Scarlet Witch’s powers according to Kevin Feige. The Marvel Studios head spoke with Empire Magazine recently and touched on some of the elements of the upcoming Disney+ series, including how the show will explore Wanda as a character.

“If you look at the Infinity Saga, I don’t think any single person has gone through more pain and trauma than Wanda Maximoff,” said Feige. “And no character seems to be as powerful as Wanda Maximoff. And no character has a power-set that is as ill-defined and unexplored as Wanda Maximoff,” Feige said. “So it seemed exploring that would be worthwhile post-Endgame. Who else is aware of that power? Where did it come from? Did the Mind Stone unlock it?”

The new series stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda, Paul Bettany as Vision, Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis, Randall Park as FBI Agent Jimmy Woo (from Ant-Man and the Wasp), Teyonah Parris as the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau, and Kathryn Hahn. Premiering on January 15th, it is described as follows:

“Set in the 1950s, WandaVision will follow the story of Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany’s superhero characters Scarlet Witch and Vision. The series blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.”
