Leads Cast In Upcoming Cagney and Lacey Reboot

As we reported in January, CBS has ordered a pilot for a reboot of the 1980s cop drama Cagney & Lacey. Now Deadline reports that Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy) will play Cagney while Michelle Hurd (Blindspot) plays Lacey.

The pilot was written by Bridget Carpenter and will be directed by Rosemary Rodriguez. It follows two female detectives and friends who protect Los Angeles. Cagney is described as “Lacey’s nimble and easygoing partner and protégée.” Hurd, meanwhile, is “athletic, polished, a former high school track and field champion. Empathetic and straightforward, she’s the more experienced partner.” Lacey was written as African-American for the reboot. The series will be produced by CBS TV studios with MGM Television. Carpenter and Rodriguez will executive produce.
