Main Cast Announced for Netflix’s The Witcher

Previously, Henry Cavill was cast in the central role of Geralt of Rivia for Netflix’s upcoming TV series based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s dark fantasy book series The Witcher. Today, the rest of the central cast has been announced for the show, including the pivotal roles of Ciri and Yennefer of Vengerberg (via The Hollywood Reporter).

17-year-old Oxfordshire-native Freya Allan (The War of the Worlds, Into The Badlands) will portray Cirilla Fiona Elen Riannon, best known to fans as Ciri, the adopted daughter of Geralt. Anya Chalotra (The ABC Murders, Wanderlust) has been cast in the role of Yennefer, a sorceress and Geralt’s longtime love.

Jodhi May (Game of Thrones, Genius) has been cast as Cintra’s Queen Calanthe, the grandmother of Ciri. As her husband is Björn Hlynur Haraldsson as the knight Eist. Adam Levy (Knightfall, Snatch) has been cast as the druid Mousesack (Ermion to fans of the games).

For the Lodge of Sorceresses, MyAnna Buring (Ripper Street) will play Yennefer’s mentor, Aretuza de Tissaia. Buring also voiced the role of Anna Henrietta, Duchess of Toussaint in The Witcher 3 expansion Blood & Wine. Mimi Ndiweni is Fringilla Vigo, and Therica Wilson-Read will play Sabrina Glevissig.

Another key role will be Millie Brady as the exiled Princess Renfri. Fans will recognize the name from the short story, “The Lesser Evil.”

The Witcher is based on the book series of the same name by Sapkowski. It later inspired a series of acclaimed games by CD Projekt RED, including the award-winning seminal game title, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Daredevil, The Defenders) is serving as executive producer and showrunner for the series alongside executive producer Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones). Physical production on The Witcher is slated to start soon.

The show is expected to debut on Netflix later in 2019 with eight episodes for the first season. All eight episodes will be available on the streaming service at launch.
