Breaking news straight out of Wondercon: a new video announcement was played for the audience at the event, revealing that none other than Mark Hamill will voice Chucky in the upcoming Child’s Play remake. Hamill himself confirmed the news on Twitter shortly after.

The film will be released in theaters by MGM and Orion Pictures on June 21. It was directed by Lars Klevberg from a script by Tyler Burton Smith. The remake stars Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, Bryan Tyree Henry, Beatrice Kitsos and Ty Consiglio. David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith will produce with Aaron Schmidt and Chris Ferguson executive producing.

Here’s a synopsis: Child’s Play follows a mother (Plaza) who gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

The film has nothing to do with Universal’s ongoing Chucky franchise which still has original cast members Brad Dourif and Alex Vincent, as well as series creator Don Mancini. That franchise will continue as a TV series, simply called Chucky, on Syfy.
