Marvel Reportedly Planning to Film Shang-Chi in Australia

Marvel will head Down Under for one of its next Marvel Cinematic Universe entries, namely Shang-Chi. The Sydney Morning Herald that the studio is setting up to film the movie at Fox Studios Sydney’s sound stages in the country.

Federal arts minister Mitch Fifield confirmed to the site on Wednesday that an untitled Marvel Studios film would shoot at Fox Studios and other locations, with $24 million in one-off funding for it. Fifield said, “Securing this latest production will bring over $150 million of new international investment, create 4700 new Australian jobs and use the services of around 1200 local businesses.”

The film was written by Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984, Zombieland 2), wiuth Destin Daniel Cretton set to direct. It will utilize a primarily Asian cast and will be its first superhero film featuring an Asian protagonist.

It is worth noting that Marvel has yet to confirm that Shang-Chi will be the film in question, or that the film is officially set at all at this point. The company is keeping its post-Avengers: Endgame plans for the MCU close to the vest until after that film releases on April 26th.
