Marvel vs. DC

I’m Steve Gustafson and thanks for stopping by. Don’t forget to check out 411mania’s Comic Book Review Roundtable, every Thursday! Read up on the best reviews and let us know what you’re reading as well. Click to read the latest Comic Book Review Roundtable! X-Men Red #1, VS #1 and more!

Now, on with the show!

Last week we discussed our The Best Black Panther Stories! Here’s what some of you had to say:

Robert Lehto: “Mostly been a side character in the Marvel comic universe until recently? You know you could say that about every non-Spider-Man and X-Men character in the Marvel Universe right? Including every Avenger.”

JusticeBringer: “Ta-Nehisi Coates’ current run on Black Panther has been absolutely phenomenal. The upcoming film actually adopts it’s suit from his run.”

Tranquilo Baby Tranquilo: “That McGregor run is actually horrendous. They just drop you in the middle of it, introduce 20 characters at once not explaining who anybody is and expect you to somehow figure it out. Its like a 70s Grant Morrison story.”

Dalinkwent: “While I enjoyed “The Client”, its too scatterbrained in its writing and its barely about Panther.”

This week we ask…

Marvel v DC: Who’s Your Favorite?

When I first started writing this column back in 2013, the very first topic I wrote about was Marvel vs DC and asked which one you all liked better. Of course we are free to like both, and I hope you have books you follow on both sides, but it’s natural to favor one over the other. In the poll (over 800 votes) I ran, nearly 70% of you voted for Marvel with the just under 30% going for DC.

I did the poll a couple of years later and it came in closer to 50/50.

Feels about right to run it again. In the demographic chart below you’ll see the results on which states prefer Marvel characters to DC characters.

Created by Dish Network partner U.S. Dish using Google analytics, the charts show which states prefer Marvel’s heroes versus DC’s. While overall it appears that Marvel is the overall preferred superhero universe – a fact Dish Network recognizes is likely due to the success of Marvel’s films – but state-by-state, the favorite individual character is a little more spread out.

For me, I enjoy both. While I feel DC is putting out better books overall currently, Marvel has a couple of gems that I enjoy. Outside of that, the Independent scene may be the strongest it has ever been.

What about you? DC? Marvel?

That’s all the time I have. Check out our Comic Book Reviews tomorrow and see you next week!
