A fifth entry in the Lethal Weapon franchise is still in the works according to Riggs himself, Mel Gibson. Gibson appeared on Good Morning America promoting his new film Fatman and confirmed when asked that the long-gestating fifth film is still moving toward the big screen.

“Yeah, no absolutely,” Gibson said when asked by Michael Strahan about it. “And the man who was behind all that, the man who brought it to the screen and gave it the goodies is working on it right now, Richard Donner. He’s a legend.”

Donner has directed and produced all five films in the franchise. The fifth film has been in the works for years, and producer Dan Lin noted in January that things were still moving forward although we hadn’t heard anything since the pandemic started.

Plot details aren’t yet known about the film, which will reunite Gibson with Danny Glover as Riggs and Murtaugh. Donner said back in 2018 that the title was Lethal Finale, though it isn’t known whether that’s still the case.
