He-Man and the Masters of the Universe

Variety reports that Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who wrote Men in Black: International, have been hired to write the script for Masters of the Universe. Brothers Adam and Aaron Nee will direct, after being hired back in April. Marcum and Holloway also wrote Iron Man and Transformers: the Last Knight, so they definitely have experience with blockbuster franchise films.

Mattel Films is working with Sony Pictures on the adaptation, based on their toy line from the 80s. That toy line also resulted in a animated series from 1983-85 and a 1987 film starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella. The new film will be produced by Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and DeVon Franklin. David S. Goyer, who wrote a previous draft of the script, will executive produce.
