Variety reports that Michael B. Jordan is set to play Tom Clancy-created character John Clark in a new series of films. Paramount is working on two films based on Clancy’s books Rainbow Six and Without Remorse, featuring Clark as the star. Without Remorse will be the first, and will serve as an origin story for Clark. Akiva Goldsman will produce with Jordan, Josh Appelbaum, and Andre Nemec. Paramount is meeting with writers and directors.

Clark, whose real name is John Terrence Kelly, is described a former Navy Seal who became an operations officer for the CIA. He appeared in seventeen novels, starting with 1988’s the Cardinal of the Kremlin. He is mainly a supporting character that helps Jack Ryan, but finally got his own story in Without Remorse. In Rainbow Six, the story “followed his new task force and its mission to protect the world from its greatest terrorist threats.”

The character was previously played by Willem Dafoe (Clear and Present Danger) and Liev Schreiber (The Sum of All Fears). Paramount has been trying to adapt these two books for years, with Chris McQuarrie and Ryan Reynolds involved at one point.
