TVLine reports that Michael Irby (True Detective, The Unit) has joined the reworked pilot for Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans MC. He will play Obispo “Bishop” Losa, President of Mayans MC’s Santo Padre Charter.

The character description reads: “From a broken home in the Salton Sea, Bishop was taken in by the family of his cousin, Marcus Alvarez, Mayan MC founder and National President. After a tour of duty in Iraq and one in Pelican Bay, Bishop was sent by Alvarez to set up and run the critical Mexi-Cali border charter. He is as deadly as he is loyal..

The original pilot for the show was shot in the winter of 2016 before getting shelved for creative issues. Norberto Barba will direct a new pilot, with several roles recast and several new characters added. Edward James Olmos and JD Pardo will both stick around for the new version. Kurt Sutter co-created the show with Elgin James, and both wrote the pilot’s script.
