James Gunn has found the Supergirl for his new DC Universe in House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock. Gunn confirmed on Monday that Alcock will play Kara Zor-El in the rebooted DC Universe, sharing a post of an original report by Deadline and confirming it as factual.

Gunn wrote:

“This is accurate. Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU. Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by @tomking_tk, @bilquis and Ana Nogueira.”

Alcock is rumored to be appearing in Superman Legacy, the first live-action film in the new DC Universe, but that is not yet confirmed. She will play the role in her own film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow which is based in the 2022 DC comic series by Tom King. No director is yet set for that film.

Alcock joins a DC Universe that includes David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. All of those characters are expected to appear in Superman: Legacy which will release in July 11, 2025 with the film set to begin shooting soon in Georgia.
