MTV is developing a live-action series reboot of their classic 1990s animated series Aeon Flux. THR reports that the network has set Jeff Davis as the showrunner for the rebooted series. He will write the script and executive produce along with The Walking Dead’s Gale Anne Hurd, who produced the 2005 film based on the series that starred Charlize Theron.

The outlet reports that the series will take cues from the animated show. It is set in a future dystopian state and revolves around a young assassin who teams with a group of biohacking rebels to save humanity as she becomes the hero known as Aeon Flux.

Aeon Flux was initially a series of shorts from Peter Chung that aired in 1991 and 1992. In 1995, a ten-episode half hour long animated series was released. The live action film starred Theron, Frances McDormand and Marton Csokas, and was directed by Karyn Kusama. It was a box office flop, with $52.3 million worldwide off a $62 million production budget.
