Mythbusters Alum Grant Imahara Passes Away
A beloved member of the Mythbusters family has left us, as Grant Imahara passed away on Monday. Deadline confirmed with Discovery that that Imahara, who was a host of the popular show among many other things, died suddenly of a brain aneurysm. Imahara was 49 years old.
Imahara is best known for his work on Mythbusters, which he co-hosted from season three in 2005 all the way until 2014. He began his career in the entertainment industry as a visual effects artist, putting his robotics and physics background to use at THX and ULM. Imahara worked on films like Jurassic Park, The Terminator, and the special edition reissues of the Star Wars films, as well as Galaxy Quest and A.I.
Imahara would return for several guest appearances on Mythbusters, and joined forces with his fellow former castmembers Kari Byron and Tory Belleci for Netflix’s White Rabbit Project, which ran for one season in 2016. He became a popular figure in geek culture, appearing in episodes of Felicia Day’s The Guild, Wil Wheaton’s Tabletop and on episodes of BattleBots and Heroes of Cosplay, among other shows.
Imahara’s Mythbusters castmates took to Twitter to comment on his passing, as you can see below. On behalf of 411, our condolences to the family, friends, and many fans of Mr. Imahara; he will be missed.
I’m at a loss. No words. I’ve been part of two big families with Grant Imahara over the last 22 years. Grant was a truly brilliant engineer, artist and performer, but also just such a generous, easygoing, and gentle PERSON. Working with Grant was so much fun. I’ll miss my friend.
