Neill Blomkamp No Longer Directing RoboCop
The RoboCop spiritual sequel is out a director, as Neill Blomkamp has stepped away from the project. The District 9 director posted to Twitter to note that he’s no longer attached to MGM’s latest take on the sci-fi franchise due to scheduling difficulties. Blomkamp said that he’s shooting a new horror-thriller and MGM couldn’t wait:
Off Robocop. I am shooting new horror/thriller and MGM can’t wait/ need to shoot Robocop now. Excited to watch it in theaters with other fans. N

The new film is written by Ed Neumeier, who co-wrote the original with Michael Miner. The film is based on a script that the two wrote in the 1980s for a sequel to the original.
There’s no word on who MGM is eyeing to take over for Blomkamp, but considering that they’re looking to move quickly on the project we should find out relatively soon.
